The rank and file of COBRA is designed to appear largely anonymous. The faces of individual soldiers are concealed behind masks or full wraparound helmets. This is all in an effort to reinforce the philosophy that the strength of COBRA lies in the vast number of troops that can be wielded as an extension of COBRA COMMANDER's will. The first COBRA soldiers were disaffected Americans, often ex-military or unemployed workers with few options, who were trained in paramilitary compounds. Over time, the Viper units branched out to encompass distinct military occupational specialties. Today, legions of Vipers serve on the front lines, in conflicts the world over.
