Interesting data abound in Spotify's first-year PlayStation Music statistics0 Comments
It's pretty well-known that PlayStation Music, the web-based music service that launched just over a year ago, is powered by the ultra-popular streaming music service Spotify. That's one of the big reasons the service has been so successful, with over 5 billion streams made on PS Music since its launch. Seeing as how the one year mark is a considerable milestone, Spotify has shared a host of statistics in a celebration of sorts for PS Music's first anniversary.
Topping the charts of the most-streamed artists across the globe was Drake, the Canadian-born artist well-known for playing Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi: The Next Generation. Drake also topped the US statistics for most popular song with his hits "Hotline Bling" and "Jumpman." Other top-streamed artists include The Interview star Eminem as well as another Canadian singer/songwriter The Weeknd.
Other interesting game-related statistics have been shared as well: the most-streamed gaming soundtracks include The Music of Grand Theft Auto V, Vol. 1 and the official soundtracks to The Last of Us, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Rocket League. Spotify also found that the most popular time to listen to music while playing games was between 8 and 9 pm on Fridays.
The ability to play background music on the PS4 has been pretty spotty since the console released, with some functionality being removed and later added back at various points in time. With that in consideration, it's not too big a surprise that PlayStation Music has seen so much success. No doubt it will continue to be a fan favorite in the coming years.
