Chunks is a brand new sandbox builder for Vive0 Comments
The HTC Vive is certainly not starved for games, but there are strikingly few which grant the player complete creative freedom. To help remedy that, Garry's Mod developer Facepunch Studios have launched their first virtual reality title: Chunks. The name appears to be a reference in part to the fact that the entire in-game world is comprised of "chunks" akin to the voxel cubes in Minecraft.
Players are given a handful of tools with which to create structures or even blast apart the world as they see fit. Although there's not a huge toolbox available just yet, one feature appears to already be quite far ahead in development — rollercoasters are already easy to create. Once one has been drawn about the scenery, you're free to hop in for a first-person ride. I assume the colloquial term of "blowing chunks" is another component of the name Chunks, as virtual reality rollercoasters can be just as affecting as real ones.
In any case, Chunks is expected to stick around in Steam's Early Access program for around two to four months. However, there is not expected to be a price increase with the change between beta and full release. The game is exclusive to HTC Vive and currently has no non-virtual reality mode available (and there are no plans for this to change). Hopefully it will eventually gain Oculus Rift support once the Touch controllers are released.
Those who pick up Chunks before April 18 will receive a launch week discount price of $14.99. After that, the game moves up to $19.99.
