Darbian sets new Super Mario Bros. world record0 Comments
Speedrunner Darbian has set a new world record for the fastest game of Super Mario Bros. after beating his own time. It's quite possibly the fastest time humanly possible without using any tools to improve speed. Darbian swept through Super Mario Bros. in 4:57.260, shaving milliseconds off of his previous record of 4:57.427. Posting on YouTube he said he was finished with this line of competition, saying, "I have reached my potential in this category—I’m done! My quest is over.”
The new record holder played through the game on a console that was hooked up to the stream that could track his heart rate throughout the run, and you can see Darbian's pulse reach 172 bpm towards the end when he realizes he's on track to set a new record. Darbian was competing in the "any percentage" category, which allows players to skip through unnecessary parts of the game and make use of glitches that can help improve time.
