Dissidia Final Fantasy recruits Garland as first playable villain0 Comments
While English speaking fans of Dissidia Final Fantasy anxiously await news of a Western release, the arcade version of the game is in full swing over in Japan. During a live stream this morning, Square Enix showed off the first playable villain of the new entry, and the identity of this villain should come as no surprise. Garland from the original Final Fantasy is the baddie of the day, and a new trailer shows off what he can do.
Though he may not look it, Garland is quite the nimble fighter — capable of charging across the battlefield, executing a good old spin-to-win with his exceptionally large sword, and then bombarding you all manner of dark magic. The previous Dissidia titles featured a roster of villains fit to match the pantheon of heroes available within the game, pulled from across the series' history, so I'm sure we'll be seeing the likes of Golbez, Kefka, and more as we continue forward.
Dissidia Final Fantasy — Duodecim in particular — is a game I got a lot of mileage out of, and it's one hell of a twist on fighting games. I really hope that once the arcade version's roster gets fleshed out we'll hear more about a console release and localization, because I'd love to get back into the high-octane action sooner rather than later.
