E3 - Final Fantasy XV's PS VR experience will arrive after launch as DLC0 Comments
Final Fantasy XV got a big reaction at Sony's E3 press conference last night, and part of that was down to a new segment of the game designed around the use of the PlayStation VR headset.
Although it may not have been immediately obvious, the VR demo being shown wasn't part of the core game, but was rather intended to be a sort of fun add-on for those who have both the game and the headset. Speaking to GameSpot, Final Fantasy series director Hajime Tabata discussed where the experience fits within the final product.
"We aren't thinking about marketing it as a separate project at all," Tabata told GameSpot through a translator. "It really is something extra to be enjoyed by the people who purchased the game."
As such, the VR portion will fit into the Final Fantasy XV experience, but won't necessarily be part of the core title. Naturally, it won't be available to play until sometime after the release of PlayStation VR — which itself releases almost two weeks after Final Fantasy XV — but Tabata said fans of the game can expect it check it out later as part of a DLC release.
"We're thinking it'll probably be a DLC release later for the game," Tabata said. "It really is our core belief that we should satisfy the people who buy the game that we've made as much as possible; we also want them to play for as long as possible too so it really does help with that—gives them something extra."
Final Fantasy XV is expected to release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 30.
