Evolve is relaunching as a free-to-play title0 Comments
Back when Turtle Rock Studios' Evolve was getting shown off at E3 2014, it received no shortage of praise, leaving many undeniably excited for the unique multiplayer title's full release. Unfortunately, by the time the game's launch came around in February of 2015, momentum had slowed significantly — due in no small part to the rather ambitious DLC plans that had already been unveiled. By the time the game was in people's hands, many of the people who did play it began to see other issues that would hold back the lasting appeal, leaving the once award-winning title to just sort of fade out of people's minds.
Now, a year and a half after release, Turtle Rock Studios hopes to turn that around and reignite the fire that once captivated potential fans by changing things up significantly. Evolve will be relaunching as a free-to-play title, beginning with a beta period on PC that starts today. Those of you who already dropped money on Evolve won't be forgotten, as anyone who bought into the game will be given "Founder" status and will keep everything that they've paid for, as well as be given some special rewards.
The entry fee won't be all that changes though, as the developers plan to make some overhauls to the game itself in the hopes of improving things all around. Progression systems and tutorials are being reworked, as well as the maps and UI. The game will be getting more customization options, performance improvements will ensure the game runs smoother than ever, and even the classes themselves are getting reworked to make teams less reliant on trappers and medics.
If you've always been curious about Evolve, then now seems like the time to give it a try. Currently this overhaul is only available on PC, but once the beta period is over it should be making its way to consoles as well. This could very well be too little too late, but only time will tell.
