Fan-made Legend of Zelda tribute celebrates series' anniversary0 Comments
It's a big year for video game anniversaries, and that includes The Legend of Zelda, which will be celebrating its 30th birthday this year. It's likely Nintendo has something official in the works to honor the event, but fans are also taking the initiative. Two in particular, known only as "Scott" and "Mike," are hard at work on an impressive web-based recreation of The Legend of Zelda.
The fan remake is reconstructing the game using 3D voxel blocks, although it is reusing the sound efects and music, among other assets, from the original game. Scott and Mike built the game in WebGL, and it's playable on both PC and mobile via a web browser with either keyboard or touch screen controls. Nintendo has a history of quickly shutting down projects of this nature, so we'll see if the company is willing to make an exception just this once, or serve The Legend of Zelda 30 Year Tribute a swift cease and desist. The remake has an active Facebook page with frequent news updates as the project continues to develop.
