Former Burnout developer announces work on new driving game0 Comments
Driving game fans of the arcade-style pursasion will almost certainly remember Burnout, the car racing series that encouraged players to indulge in their psychopathic urges through addictive, destructive, and almost puzzle-like gameplay. It was a series that reveled in the over-the-top, which was one of many reasons the games were so much fun to play. And while Alex Ward, the director of the Burnout series, may no longer be with Burnout developer Criterion Games, that doesn't mean he no longer plans to create driving games. In fact, according to his latest Twitter post, he's just begun work on a new one.
Work has begun on a driving game.— Alex Ward (@CrashedAlex) July 27, 2016
The world hasn't seen a Burnout game since 2011's Burnout Crash!, and it may never see one again — the creative minds behind the series, namely Ward and coworker Fiona Sperry, have since moved on to found a new studio called Three Fields Entertainment. Still, the lack of a Burnout license doesn't necessarily spell doom for hyper-destructive driving games, nor necessarily hyper-destructive games in general — Three Fields released Dangerous Golf just last month, and despite being a sports title of sorts, the game quite clearly smacks of Burnout's destructive nature.
While it would probably be unfair to assume that Ward's new driving game would play like other Burnout games, such an assumption isn't too much of a stretch. For now, nothing else about the latest game is known, but any announcement of the new driving game emphasizing vehicular mayhem will surely be well-received.
