Free-to-play Legacy of Kain multiplayer spinoff Nosgoth has been cancelled0 Comments
Legacy of Kain fans just can't seem to catch a break these days, it seems. After going over ten years without a proper entry to the series, fans were less than enthused a couple of years ago to learn that the newest game in the series would be a free-to-play, online multiplayer spinoff called Nosgoth. When it eventually went into open beta in January of 2015, many fans decided to give it a shot nonetheless, but not enough fans apparently.
Yesterday, an update was posted to the game's official website explaining that Nosgoth has officially ceased development. The title will continue to be available for play up until May 31, at which point it will go offline for good. "On behalf of the entire Nosgoth team we want to thank the community for all their feedback, support and dedication to the game during the closed and open beta phases," the post goes on to say. "It's been a pleasure to build this game with your help, but ultimately its audience hasn’t grown enough to sustain ongoing operations."
Refunds will only be made available for purchases that occured within the game since March of this year, and those should be processed automatically. While this marks the end of Nosgoth's short lifespan, the Legacy of Kain series still has a very small ray of hope in the form of a comment made by Crystal Dynamics' senior designer Michael Brinker last year, who stated that there was a "50/50 chance" of the series making a return one day.
