HTC Vive demo stations now available at select GameStop locations0 Comments
Even though both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are seeing unforeseen shipping delays, both companies know they must hit it big at retail to draw more people into the world of virtual reality. Most diehards already admit that the best way to do this is actually get someone wearing a headset for the first time via personal demonstrations or in-store opportunities. GameStop recently unveiled HTC Vive demos in ten of their stores nationwide.
In order to do this, GameStop cordons off a 15 x 15 section of their store as the HTC Vive playspace. After all, unlike the Oculus Rift, the HTC Vive is best known for its "room scale" gameplay that allows you to walk around. The station includes The Blu, Space Pirate Trainer, and Tilt Brush in a 3 minute rotating demo. The Blu isn't much of a walking experience, but Space Pirate Trainer and Tilt Brush are excellent picks as both have players moving around quite a bit.
GameStop is also offering perks for folks who pre-order the HTC Vive at their store. Rewards members will receive 5,000 bonus ports with this pre-order and can get 20% extra credit toward the unit when trading in select video games. If you'd like to try the headset out then you'd better hurry. This in-store demo is only going to be available until April 23! Here's a list of all participating GameStop stores:
