Hyper Light Drifter releases for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this month0 Comments
Yet another popular Kickstarter game is gearing up for its launch on home consoles. Hyper Light Drifter, the Kickstarter game that managed to garner some $618,000 over its stated $27,000 goal, was originally slated to release on PlayStation 4 sometime in March. That date has passed, of course, but developer Heart Machine has recently announced that the game will be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this month.
The game has been described as a sort of love letter to 16-bit action RPGs, including very obvious references to games like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Heart Machine say the game follows "in the vein of the best 16 bit classics, with modernised mechanics and designs on a much grander scale."
It's safe to say that Hyper Light Drifter has seen more than its share of success. Not only did the game manage to garner an amount well in excess of it's projected funding on Kickstarter, it also spawned one of the coolest special editions around: a historically-accurate reproduction SNES-styled box and cartridge.
Fans of 16-bit games and the titles that carry on their legacy should find much and more to love with Hyper Light Drifter. Our very own Grant Patterson scored the game a 9 out of 10, stating that "Hyper Light Drifter is a beautiful game, unapologetically adherent to the gameplay principles and mechanics it relies on, and is a worthy homage to the legendary franchises it emulates so well."
Hyper Light Drifter will release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on July 26. No specific price has been listed for the title, but it's safe to assume the console version will cost $19.99, the same as the Steam version.
