Lightsaber-based VR freebie Trials on Tatooine available now0 Comments
The world's most powerful consumer VR hardware and what could perhaps be considered the world's most expansive science fiction universe have collided in Trials on Tatooine, an official-endorsed and totally-free Star Wars-based VR lightsaber game for the HTC Vive.
The game — which is being officially referred to as a "cinematic virtual reality experiment" — is coming straight to player's headsets from the talented and experienced crews over at Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic. The game was mentioned in passing some time ago, but players got their first look at the title during last weekend's Star Wars Celebration expo.
As can be seen in the above trailer, Trials on Tatooine kicks off the action rather immediately. Players find themselves under heavy fire, and after being given a lightsaber from trusty robotic companion R2D2 are tasked with holding down the fort while the Millenium Falcon prepares to make its escape.
Though the experience isn't exactly a fully-fledged lightsaber combat simulator, it does act as a proof-of-concept of sorts for how using lightsabers could work in VR environments. And, of course, it does allow the player to deflect blaster fire in order to take out some stormtroopers, and that's more than enough considering the title's price. HTC Vive owners can download Trials on Tatooine right this moment from the usual channels.
