Mafia III launches October 7, 20160 Comments
Mafia III's reveal teased a new direction for the series, and now we know when we'll be able to jump into this brand new world of criminal action. 2K's next venture into organized crime — set in the fictional New Orleans-like city of New Bordeaux — will be coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on October 7. The official announcment promises a fully open world to explore, unlike Mafia II's decevingly big city that never let us look around on our own, as well as some explosive action sequences shown in the "One Way Road" trailer above.
“Mafia III introduces a true open world, rich with its own criminal ecosystems to the franchise, while still upholding the strong narrative storytelling and immersive setting that the previous Mafia games are known for,” Hangar 13 studio head and creative director Haden Blackman said in the press release. “New Bordeaux in 1968 provides a unique and powerful backdrop for our hard-boiled story of crime, betrayal, loyalty and revenge.”
Mafia II is the game I'd pick for "Most Underrated of Last Generation." While the lack of a true open world was disappointing, the story the game told was exceptional and on the level of classic gangster films like Goodfellas and The Untouchables. If Mafia III's narrative pans out as well as its predecessor, there's no telling how good this game could be.
