Minecraft for Wii U is getting free Mario-themed items0 Comments
Video game mash-ups aren't as common as we might expect, but that doesn't mean that they're necessarily rare — it's just that oftentimes the material crossing from one form to another isn't particularly noticeable or noteworthy. However, that's definitely not the case with this latest mash-up, as Nintendo have announced that items based on Super Mario Bros. are making their way into the Wii U version of Minecraft.
The Super Mario Mash-Up Pack is set to include a collection of music, skins, and even a pre-made world for Minecraft that will be entirely exclusive to Wii U versions of the game. According to an accompanying press release, the pack includes the likeness of Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach, as well as Wario, Toadstool, and the Koopalings, among others. And, to make an already appealing release even more appealing, the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack is going to be launching as a free update on May 17 for users that already have the game. The content will also be included with the physical retail versions of the game that launch on June 17, meaning essentially no Minecraft players on Wii U will be without it.
There are plenty of skin packs and the like for Minecraft, but not all are so iconic nor instantly-recognizable as this one. The textures for the world are particularly praiseworthy on this front, as they look to be the perfect blend of both games, keeping the distinct Super Mario Bros. feel without losing that Minecraft edge. There can be little doubt that we'll start seeing a flood of Super Mario 64-inspired worlds very soon.
