New Fear Effect entry makes its way to Kickstarter0 Comments
Fear Effect Sedna — a new entry in the long dormant Fear Effect franchise — has officially begun its Kickstarter campaign just days after being announced as part of the Square Enix Collective.
Developer Sushee describes the game as "a real-time tactical action game for PC & Mac" on its Kickstarter page, while also detailing some of its main features. This new Fear Effect will ditch the classic Resident Evil style of play for an isometric approach that sounds a lot like the Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris offshoot game.
For those unfamilair, the Square Enix Collective is an initiative started by the longtime publisher that allows the public to give feedback on potential projects proposed by smaller developers, voting on whether or not we would back these games on crowdfunding sites before giving the publishing greenlight to those developers. Fear Effect Sedna is the first pre-existing IP to be pushed through the Collective, but we don't think it will be the last.
If Fear Effect can get through the Collective initiative, then other Square Enix franchises should have no trouble making it to a Kickstarter greenlight. Romancing SaGa, Project Sylpheed, even a new Valkyrie Profile or Grandia in the hands of a new studio would be cool. I'm not going to hold my breath, I'm just saying Square Enix could consider it is all.
