New mod brings first-person perspective to Dark Souls 30 Comments
There's just something about a first-person view that makes a game feel more immersive. Sure, the perspective allows for a perhaps more-limited field of view than humans enjoy in real life, but the experience is considered much more "realistic" than common third-person perspectives that allow for a higher degree of situational awareness.
Normally, that might be considered a good thing, but in the case of this latest first-person mod for Dark Souls 3, the very idea is frightening. As can be seen from YouTuber Iron Pineapple, the new mod gives Dark Souls 3 a first-person perspective replete with floating hands for the game's various weapons. The look is not entirely dissimilar to VR titles, although in this case the game still seems to function in the usual manner.
As for how it looks and works, everything seems good — the mod is implemented well enough to seem like the game was designed to look that way from the start, and the crossbow action in particular smacks slightly of a first-person shooter. As to how it feels, however, I cannot say. Knowing the game, I would have to guess that playing from this perspective would be pretty terrifying.
Those brave enough to give this mod a shot can find all the relevant information via this Reddit post. Just be warned, use of the mod may cause data corruption or even a soft ban on the player's account.
