Nintendo revives the Famicom with special NES miniature console
0 CommentsNintendo seems to have a knack for surprises these days. In a recent announcement from the Nintendo of America Twitter page, the company revealed that they're bringing back the iconic 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System, also known as the Famicom, as a special miniature console dubbed the NES Classic Edition.
The new hardware isn't a fully-fledged NES console, but that's not to say that it doesn't have some interesting features. The NES Classic Edition connects to televisions via HDMI and comes bundled with 30 games, including Castlevania I and II, Dr. Mario, Punch-Out!!, Mega Man 2, all three Super Mario Bros. titles, Ghosts 'N' Goblins, Final Fantasy, and The Legend of Zelda, among others. The unit also comes with its own AC adapter and a true-to-form NES controller.
The controller itself is fairly substantial in its functionality — it works with the NES mini, as would be expected, but it also connects to a Wii remote and can be used to played Virtual Console NES games on both the Wii and Wii U. What's more, the controllers will sell individually for only $10.
According to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, the NES Classic Edition is a chance for Nintendo fans "to revisit Nintendo's original system and rediscover why they fell in love with Nintendo in the first place." The console will launch on November 11 for a pleasingly low price of $60. The full list of included games can be found below.
