NIS to cease publishing European Atlus titles due to 'very difficult' partnership0 Comments
It’s bad enough that it takes forever for Atlus games to reach Europe, which is a running joke for Atlus fans. Unfortunately, it gets worse: NIS America announced that they will cease publishing Atlus titles in Europe. According to MCV, NIS America MD Takuro Yamashita stated that it has been harder to cooperate with Atlus since they were purchased by Sega.
“Around ten days ago, we terminated our alliance with Atlus in Europe and the US,” Yamashita said. “Atlus became very picky about selecting the European publishing partner after it was bought by Sega. It always cherry picked its EU publishing partner based on who offered the highest minimum guarantee on a title by title basis. I noticed that it was very difficult for NIS America to establish an equal-partnership with Atlus.”
At the very least, Yamashita gave credit where it was due, saying that Atlus’ European titles “contributed a lot to the expansion of NIS America in Europe.” In addition to ceased publication in Europe, NIS America’s titles will also not be distributed by Atlus in the Americas. Fortunately, current-gen consoles are region-free, so European players can simply import the titles they want. However, this is a crushing blow for European Atlus fans who enjoy their Nintendo 3DS titles, mainly because the handheld is still region-locked.
