No Man's Sky on PlayStation 4 won't require PlayStation Plus0 Comments
Loads of eager gamers have been patiently (and sometimes impatiently) awaiting the release of No Man's Sky, the upcoming space exploration game from developer Hello Games. Fans have known for a long time that the game will be played online, which generally requires PlayStation Plus service on the PS4, but Sony has recently confirmed that the game won't require a PlayStation Plus subscription.
"PS Plus won't be a requirement to play online," a Sony representative said to Game Informer, "however you will need to connected to the internet for your discoveries to register with the universal atlas."
It may be that No Man's Sky doesn't require PS Plus subscriptions because it isn't exactly a multiplayer game — it's online, yes, but the game's universe is so vast that the chances of encountering other player characters is slim to none. Instead, the online functionality is relegated to filling out the aforementioned atlas, which will act as a catalog for all of the discoveries made by the game's players.
It's been a long time in the waiting, but No Man's Sky is all geared up for its launch on PlayStation 4 and PC on August 9.
