Overwatch engineers talk netcode in latest video update0 Comments
It might not be the most interesting part of video game development, but working on netcode is absolutely crucial to any game meant to be played online. The team behind Overwatch understand the gravity of netcode, and in a video recently posted to YouTube, Overwatch engineers Tim Ford and Philip Orwig have dropped some wisdom on their methods.
Much of the video centers around the values and techniques employed by the team that ensure players have the best experience possible. Specifically, Ford and Orwig address the issue of responsiveness, and detail the ways in which their work helps players see immediate results from their inputs. The team also touches on some of the issues they've found along the way, as well as some of the improvements they're hoping to make in the future.
Seeing video updates like this from developers is always fun, because not only can players learn about behind-the-scenes work done to their favorite games, they also get a pretty rare glimpse of the enthusiasm shared by the development team — the latter of which being something that Blizzard is absolutely known for. Be on the lookout for Overwatch when it releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC on March 24.
