Rare Beavis and Butt-Head arcade game surfaces in Chicago0 Comments
The Galloping Ghost Arcade in Chicago is developing quite the reputation for restoring old prototype video games and putting them on display. First it was Primal Rage II — a prototype thought to be lost forever — and now its an old Atari-developed Beavis and Butt-Head game that some might not have even known existed.
Galloping Ghosts' cabinet is labeled as 9 out of a total of 12 and features the famous MTV duo in a The Simpsons Arcade-style brawler battling against martial artists and giant hippies. A video from 2011 of the game in action can be viewed here.
According to Kotaku, the game was built on a machine based on the old 3DO console — the arcade even had to buy old 3DOs and dismantle them in order to get the remaining parts to restore this machine — but the machines were never completed thanks to the game's cancellation.
I absolutely love stuff like this, when old games come out of obscurity and find their way to the public. This old Beavis and Butt-Head gem looks like a game I would have really enjoyed, though the 3DO parts inside definitely give me pause. 3DO games weren't the best games ever made, and let's just leave it at that.
