Ratchet & Clank remake becomes the fastest selling game in the series0 Comments
Ratchet & Clank, the game based on the movie based on the game, launched for PlayStation 4 not very long ago, and it's been met with a surprising amount of success. I don't say surprising by personal standards, because I've been singing praises for the series for years now, but surprising by more traditional standards. According to a recent posting by SIE Senior Producer Greg Phillips on the PlayStation.Blog, the most recent Ratchet & Clank game has become the fastest-selling game in the franchise's nearly 14-year history.
You may be thinking to yourself, why has this one sold so fast? While it's far from an official answer, the truth is that it's just that good. I personally rated the game an 8.5 out of 10, with the only real drawbacks to the game being colored by my decade-plus exposure to the series' raw excellence. By and large, however, it's a series that doesn't mind trying new things — and that's sort of the point the rest of Phillips' post alludes to.
According to the post, the game likely owes its success (and definitely its very existence) to the movie that released just days ago. Phillips gives a history of how both the movie and game came to be, detailing the interaction between Insomniac Games and Rainmaker Films, the team that helped the Ratchet & Clank movie come to life. It's a good read, and with any luck the movie will be able to see at least some of the success enjoyed by the game.
