Rebellion has remastered Battlezone, and it's out today0 Comments
Rebellion Developments have released a remastering of the classic 1998 Battlezone, which was itself a remake of a 1980 Atari arcade game. The 1998 Battlezone was a hybrid tank simulator and first-person shooter with real-time strategy elements, which differed greatly from the original Atari release. It was released to generally positive reviews, and with the new fervor for reliving classic games it makes sense that Rebellion would decide to revisit it.
Battlezone 98 Redux was developed by Big Boat Interactive, and has received the usual upgrades along with online multiplayer and an impressive amount of modding capabilities through the Steam Workshop. You can pick up Battlezone 98 Redux during its Steam release sale for 20 percent off, bringing the price to $15.99. There aren't many other games out there that can replicate the same hybrid warfare, let alone do it while maintaining a solid retro theme, so it's a fairly unique offering.
The CEO of Rebellion, Jason Kingsley, has plans to work on additional Redux games in the future, stemming from the large number of IPs that the company can work with. "We are blessed with a vast library of games and properties, and we are well aware fans are keen for us to give some of our other games the remaster treatment."
