Rumor: PlatinumGames is looking into VR development0 Comments
An interesting bit of trivia popped up on NeoGAF over the weekend that seems to imply that PlatinumGames, the development studio behind titles like Bayonetta and the upcoming Xbox One title Scalebound, are experimenting with virtual reality.
The photo above was uploaded to NeoGAF by user Ōkami, who details time spent on a fan tour through the PlatinumGames office on March 27. All the usual sorts of development studio scenery could be found, including loads of computer screens and work areas decked with game swag, but one particular photo quite clearly shows what appears to be an individual playing an early version of Scalebound through an Oculus Rift headset.
According to reports, the running version of Scalebound was just a technical demonstration, and Famitsu has quoted PlatinumGames as saying that while they're looking into VR technology, they haven't started development on anything just yet. So, no one can really say whether or not PlatinumGames will be developing VR titles, nor which system those titles may potentially land on. All we know is that they've got virtual reality technology in their hands, and, like with the select few lucky enough to receive their Rift headsets, they're curious to see what the tech is capable of.
