Rumor: Red Dead Redemption 2 map leaked, signals a prequel0 Comments
While Grand Theft Auto V has been chugging along for Rockstar Games and Take-Two, we've all been wondering what's next for the acclaimed studio. After a leak earlier this week, we may have to go find our cowboy hats.
A NeoGAF thread appeared on Wednesday that claimed to show off the entire map for Red Dead Redemption 2, the oft-rumored follow-up to Rockstar's 2010 spaghetti western. The thread creator then took it down a day later, but TechRadar was quick to confirm that what this NeoGAF user presented is indeed the real RDR2 map, both confirming the game in production and the leak.
The map has a few interesting features, particularly the lack of railroads that featured heavily in the first game as well as the Great Plains — home to the original's Blackwater settlement — showing where the two games may connect. The lack of railroads suggests that RDR2 will take place before the original, perhaps detailing John Marston's seedy past that came back to haunt him in the first game.
While Rockstar has not directly come out and said "yup, you got us," the fact that TechRadar was apparently able to get a solid confirmation points strongly to the legitimacy of this map. That being said, this leak means RDR2 is close and holy hell is that not the best news I've heard all week. I loved Red Dead Redemption — it was my entry point into all of Rockstar's games, sorry GTA — and being able to go back to the West makes me very happy. Perhaps we'll learn more at this year's E3.
