Sony 'unsure' if PlayStation 5 will ever exist0 Comments
If a longtime industry veteran is to be believed, Sony may not venture into the world of PlayStation 5 once the PS4 has run its course. Game designer Lorne Lanning — creator of the Oddworld franchise, including the new remake Oddworld New 'n' Tasty — was speaking on the Game Informer Show about the rumored upgraded model of the PlayStation 4 and revealed an interesting tidbit: The current heads of PlayStation aren't totally sure if a PlayStation 5 would be next in line.
"I said, 'What does the PlayStation 5 look like?'" Lanning explains. "And he said, 'You mean if...' And I was like, 'Whoa. Are you willing to say that on stage?' And he said, 'Yeah, it's an if.'" Lanning then went on to express support for a PlayStation 4.5 upgrade, calling incremental upgrades like the rumored system "the right way to think about" the future of PlayStation.
My personal feelings on the PS4.5 rumors aside, I highly doubt that Yoshida and his team have even considered a PlayStation 5. I wouldn't be surprised if Yoshida thought Lanning was asking about the PS4.5 and tried to shut the rumor down, not talking about "if" there will be a PS5 in the future. Let's give the PS4 some time to breathe before we start talking about the next one, alright?
