Persona fans got a rude awakening this past weekend after it was briefly “revealed” that Persona 5 would be launching on July 8 in Japan for PlayStation 4 and PC. The fleeting moment of excitement was replaced by despair after it was revealed that someone behind the scenes was messing with everybody.
An Atlus teaser website that was launched on Friday featured a countdown clock slowly ticking away until May 5, which would of course be another announcement. This clock was supposed to keep counting down until Atlus was ready on May 5, but things don’t always turn out as they’re supposed to.
According to NeoGAF, better known as the harbingers of leak confirmation, someone at Atlus may have pressed the button a little too early which resulted in a store page being shown before May 5. Seeing as almost every countdown clock that’s been released in the past year has been torn apart by NeoGAF users and source-code scholars long before the countdown expired, it makes you wonder if this is an effective method going forward to
If you were one of the fortunate people to miss this information until now, consider yourself lucky. The rest of us were treated to an emotional rollercoaster that ended in the heartbreaking news that in fact, Persona 5 will not be releasing on July 8 for PlayStation 4, and certainly not for PC.
