Unnamed, scrapped Neo Geo fighting game prototype discovered0 Comments
If there’s one undeniable truth in the video game industry, it’s that for every “gold” title, there is a scrapped one. This couldn’t be truer for the Neo Geo console, which had a plethora of fighting games that were successful, such as Samurai Showdown and Garou: Mark of the Wolves. However, there was one title that never saw the light of day. Neo Geo enthusiast Neo Turfmasta stumbled upon a long forgotten fighting game prototype on a random development board purchased through an auction. After a few months of sleuthing, the user found an unfinished fighting game, and shared his discovery on an NG forum post.
The unnamed title had 12 fighters, a handful of stages, and even a character select screen. Unfortunately, it was scrapped for unknown reasons. One peculiar aspect about the title was the three options players could choose to enhance their chosen character: lawful, chaotic, and neutral. Each of these variations would have special effect that boosted the fighters’ attributes. Its middle age aesthetic is also pretty cool, and it really gives off a Samurai Showdown x Darkstalkers vibe, which is never a bad thing. This only begs the question as to why it was scrapped, despite that it was nearly completed.
