Vive-exclusive strategy title Out of Ammo launches on Steam Early Access
0 CommentsVR is a hot technology at the moment, and loads of game developers are looking to make a name for themselves in the burgeoning market. One such developer is RocketWerkz, the studio founded by DayZ creator Dean Hall, and their first project is an HTC Vive exclusive that's just landed on Steam Early Access.
This title is called Out of Ammo, and, unlike DayZ, it's a strategy/shooter title. It puts players in command of a battlefield where they can employ many genre-staple actions like building defenses, ordering around soldiers, and the like, topped off with a cool mechanic where the player can possess their units for some up-close action. It's a good idea — not one that's often seen, anyway — and seems to lend itself well to the particular strengths of VR.
The game is still in the early stages at this point, but even then, RocketWerkz say Out of Ammo is "fully playable and has plenty of content," though they admit it "can be a bit clunky to use" in its current state. Like with other Steam Early Access titles, users pay for the game (currently running for $14.99) and can help shape the final product through reporting bugs and suggesting new features.
It may be optimistic to hope that Out of Ammo fares anywhere near as well as DayZ did, but seeing how well the Early Access approach worked for DayZ, there's no surprise that RocketWerkz is taking the same route. It's likely the right move for VR owners as well, as there's a distinct lack of variety in available games so far, and most early adopters seem keen enough on the technology to be able to provide genuinely helpful feedback.
