World of Tanks developer believes PS4 will sell 69 million and Xbox One 39 million by 20190 Comments
According to World of Tanks developer Wargaming, the PlayStation 4 will have sold 69 million units by 2019, while the Xbox One will continue to follow behind with 39 million. The data comes from a Game Developers Conference panel held by Wargaming's executive producer and creative director, TJ Wagner. The presentation also claims that there are currently 36 million active PS4 consoles out there, and 19 million Xbox One units. Wargaming drew the data from a number of financial firms, including IDG Consulting, Superdata, and IHS. These numbers look to match official data we've gotten recently. In January, Sony announced that it had sold almost 36 million systems. Microsoft doesn't report on Xbox One sales, although unofficial reports had suggested a few months ago that there were 18 million active Xbox One consoles.
Phil Spencer announced last year that the PlayStation 4 had a "huge lead" over the Xbox One, and was unsure whether Microsoft's console could ever catch up. Microsoft doesn't seem too upset about the lead, instead focusing on moving the platform forward the best way that they can. "We're not motivated by beating Sony, we're motivated by gaining as many customers as we can," Spencer said previously.
