Yoshinori Ono would like to see Nintendo vs. Capcom fighting game0 Comments
The latest iteration of Super Smash Bros. has really been quite amazing. As opposed to previous versions on the Nintendo 64, GameCube, and even Wii, the current game is jam-packed full of non-Nintendo characters. One of the most exciting of these reveals was when Street Fighter's Ryu joined the fray as DLC.
Recently, StreetPass UK had the opportunity to speak with Capcom's Yoshinori Ono and chatted about Super Smash Bros. with him. This discussion revealed that Ono himself would personally pick characters like Zangief or Blanka to bring to the title next, if Nintendo weren't already done adding more DLC to the game. Basically, he didn't think another fireball-throwing character would really be fair.
There was a much more interesting comment shared by Ono during the discussion as well. In response to a question, he shared that instead of just picking a character, he'd "rather see something like Nintendo vs. Capcom." It's this simple comment which is resonating with the fighting game community — and with good reason. As enjoyable as Super Smash Bros. is, it's still mostly Nintendo with a side of third party characters.
If there really could be a Nintendo vs. Capcom it would be the latest in a series of crossover games between Capcom and other companies. Titles such as Capcom vs. SNK and Marvel vs. Capcom are classics, and a Nintendo iteration could potentially be just as great. Of course, this is all just based off an off-hand comment and does not mean that Capcom is in fact planning anything with Nintendo. It sure would be exciting, though!
