YouTube series turns Fallout: New Vegas into interactive story in the same vein as Choose Your Own Adventure books0 Comments
Gaming “let’s play” videos are among YouTube’s most popular and profitable channels. The live game-broadcasting giant TwitchTV is worth billions of dollars. It’s becoming very apparent that gamers are turning to a new medium for entertainment — they’re watching games and not just playing.
Watching recorded gameplay can give those who are short on time and money the experience of a video game with few drawbacks. But those looking for an interactive story experience when storylines branch out to endless possibilities have needed to pick up their own copies of a release in order to have their own story told.
One channel has a mind to change that with a new “let’s play” series based on the popular Fallout: New Vegas titled “Fallout: New Vegas – Choose Your Own Apocalypse.” As the title suggests, instead of watching someone else’s story branch out, this YouTube series by Many A True Nerd allows viewers to choose the character’s option at the end of each video through annotations. The result is an interactive story, very similar to Choose Your Own Adventure books, complete with with wrong ends and interesting outcomes.
Now if someone decides to do a “let’s play” of “Fallout: New Vegas – Choose Your Own Apocalypse,” it just might be the most meta series on YouTube.
You can check the series out for yourself below, just make sure you’ve turned on annotations! Happy wastelanding!
